San Anselmo has it all. With some of the nation's top-rated educational options, an interactive community and local support for interests in culture, arts and sports, San Anselmo is truly one of the best cities to call home in Marin County. Here you will find painters, bakers, art collectors, business owners, sales managers and writers. Many young families love the quiet ambience of this San Francisco suburb. Small business owners love the community's style of mom-and-pop boutiques and artists adore the old-charm of the town.

Only 20 miles north of San Francisco, San Anselmo's location is perfect for those who want to enjoy the benefits of a countryside home with a city-paying salary. The trip to San Francisco's Financial District is about 20 minutes away with no traffic and 35 minutes or more with traffic. The Golden Gate Transit Service has a few commuter buses that offer convenient rides into San Francisco, San Rafael and Fairfax.

Just south of San Anselmo is Mount Tamalpais. Hiking, biking, camping and horseback riding are common for those who love to spend time on the mountain. Mount Tamalpais covers about 25,000 acres at 2,571 feet above sea level. There are some incredible sights at these headlands, so make sure to take along your camera. The all-stone Cushman Memorial Theater is an impressive outdoor amphitheater that hosts the traditional Mountain Play every spring.

There are many fantastic parks within San Anselmo that are worth spending numerous hours enjoying. Creek Park features movie in the park nights and an outdoor concert series towards the end of each summer. Memorial Park on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is the most developed park in San Anselmo. This park has large grassy areas, tennis courts, a variety of sports fields and the magnificent Millennium Playground. Incorporating San Anselmo themes, the creative Millennium Playground was built in 2000 by 1,500 local volunteers in just one week.

Close by is the Elder's Garden, a quieter area where many go to play chess, checkers and horseshoes. The gorgeous flowers in the garden are planted by members of the community.

The community of San Anselmo is extremely supportive of every individual's interests, businesses and endeavors. There are numerous artists who reside in San Anselmo so there is plenty of local support in the art scene. Among many notable residents of San Anselmo is movie director David Fincher, director George Lucas and actor Don Novello. The city offers and encourages children to enroll in one of the many art programs, classes and camps being offered each year.

The city is constantly looking for new ways to improve its services to the residents of San Anselmo. The Bicycle Master Plan involves a network of convenient bike paths and lanes that ensure safety for bikers throughout San Anselmo. There will be more bike racks, biking areas, wider lanes, caution signs and outdoor facilities for bikers to use. The purpose is to make San Anselmo an area that welcomes bicycling as a way to get to around the city efficiently and safely.
