Getting Around San Anselmo For Visitors

San Anselmo is 20 miles north of San Francisco in Marin County, between San Rafael and Fairfax. With many attractions in and around the town of San Anselmo, there are many reasons to visit and travel around San Anselmo. With Highway 101 near the town, car is by far the easiest way to travel, but if you didn’t drive into San Anselmo, there are some other options available to you.

While cars may be the easiest way to get around San Anselmo, this method does have its downsides. Parking downtown is regulated by parking meters, so in order to attend many of the shops, cafes and restaurants in San Anselmo, you will have to pay. However, if you are visiting on a holiday weekend, the town shuts down the meters so residents and visitors can enjoy free parking for the holidays. If you’re not planning on having a car to come to San Anselmo, there are a few other ways to get into town. Golden Gate Transit offers busses into San Anselmo. The 24, 26 and 27 busses travel between San Anselmo and the Financial District in San Francisco. These rides span about an hour and are in transit during the time between 4:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Busses 23 and 29 will get you to and from San Rafael, and Bus 24 travels to and from Fairfax. They are even equipped with bike racks so that you can cruise around when you arrive at your chosen destination.

Another way to get around San Anselmo without your own car is by taxi. One recommended service is Safari Taxi Service, which uses clean and comfortable vehicles and trustworthy drivers. With a taxi, you can get to and from Oakland or San Francisco’s airport. Just call (415) 462-0808. A Marin Taxi is another reliable service for getting around Marin County. If you’re an avid biker or are in good shape, biking is another option for getting around San Anselmo. With so many quality attractions located within a short distance, getting from place to place is not that difficult. There are a multitude of antique shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes and art galleries over the course of several streets in the “hub” of downtown, and if you’re staying in a local hotel, you can easily reach these spots by bike. Another possibility would be to take a cab to areas of town and walk between different San Anselmo attractions.
